HUNTING SKILLS DAYS - TBA for 2010
Have you ever wanted to shoot a muzzleloader or thought about hunting with a muzzleloader? The famous saying "try before you buy" is sound advice. Here’s some more sound advice. Do yourself a favour and come out to the Manitoba Wildlife Federation's Outdoor Education Centre, located at Younghusband Lodge in August for Hunting Skills days. We provide the equipment; you try the equipment and have some fun at the same time. We have discovered that more than just the youngsters get a kick out of shooting muzzle loaders, rifles, shotguns and bows! Yes, that’s right, we’re offering this event to all ages!
Here’s your opportunity to experience what it’s like to shoot a hunting bow. First, participants will get expert instruction from qualified and experienced bow hunters. Proper technique and learning to judge distance are skills that will prepare the participants for a lifetime of enjoyable outings. Then it’s off to the archery trail for some "hunting"! Life-size 3D targets of deer, antelope, bears, wild boar and turkeys are set up at various distances.
Participants learn to properly place shots in the vitals and get in some practical experience prior to archery season. Remember, we supply the equipment; you get to try out the equipment and the activity. From there, you decide which hunting technique interests you the most and what equipment best suits your needs.
On the rifle range, participants will be shooting at life – size animal targets at unknown distances. The range is set up to ensure that safety is foremost. Learn to judge distance as well as hit the vitals on the "hunted" animal.
This event is always popular and rightfully so. One can never get enough practice when it comes to shooting a rifle accurately. Instructors at all venues offer one-on-one instruction. We supply the equipment and ammunition for every venue.
The shotgunning event adds a lot of excitement on Hunting Skills Day! This venue requires participants to be alert, fast and proficient. Clay birds fly from right to left, towards the shooter, away from the shooter and at various angles. Participants will also get to experience what it’s like to shoot out of a boat and from a duck blind. The clay birds flying past, across, away or toward you in this event will make you want to get out on opening day.
PLAN NOW to attend Hunting Skills Days. Bring the whole family along. This is an event you will remember for the rest of your life. The skills learned here will help you every hunting season.
